A personal brand built on teaching faces a positioning question early: is the content about the subject, or about the person teaching it? Lead too hard on the subject and the individual never becomes the reason people follow; lead too hard on the person and the authority thins out.
Start & Scale produced two consecutive rounds of short-form content. The first, in May 2023, focused on the education itself. The second, in June, shifted toward personal brand material as the positioning sharpened.
Running the rounds back to back meant the second could respond to how the first performed rather than being planned in isolation.
Mark Denniston came away with a content library spanning both registers, produced across consecutive months rather than in a single undifferentiated batch.
Should a personal brand lead with the subject or the person?
Both, in sequence. Start & Scale typically establishes authority through subject-led content first, then shifts toward personal material once the expertise is credible.
